My Testimony

My husband and I were only together a year or so when I was diagnosed with pre-cancerous cells on the cervix.  By the time I went in for surgery it had started turning to cancer so we had caught it just in the nick-of-time. While the doctors were in removing the cancer, they also performed a laser surgery to clean up scar tissue all through my abdomen and bowels caused by the four previous surgeries.

I had been out of the hospital a couple days when I started having severe abdominal pain. I walked up and down the sidewalk in front of our house until I could no longer withstand the pain. My husband took me back to the hospital.

After running some tests the doctor determined it was a blocked bowel. They put a tube in my nose and down my throat and told me they would give it a few days to see if the obstruction would move.

The first full day of my hospital return, a priest came by to pray. I explained that if the obstruction remained they would be taking me back in for surgery to remove part of the bowel.

He said, “Let’s pray and ask that it be removed.”

This was my first experience praying with a priest and asking the Lord for a healing.  The priest said his prayer and left. A couple days later when he returned to my room, I became very emotional. I explained to him that the doctor had just informed me that they were planning surgery for the next morning to remove the obstruction so that gangrene could not set in and cause sepsis.

He said again, “Let’s pray and ask God to heal you.”

I remember closing my eyes ready to receive the same soothing prayer he had prayed just a couple days before.

He put his hand on my shoulder and in a thunderous voice that caused me to jump and open my eyes, “GOD! WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW! HEAL MONICA. REMOVE THIS BLOCKAGE, NOW!! Thank you Lord.”  Then in a soothing voice he said another small prayer smiled and said, “That should do it. I’ll come by tomorrow.”

That prayer worked. The blockage was cleared and I did not have to have another surgery. This is a story I have told many times to many people to let them know that God will heal you if you ask and believe.

I have to say at the time my heart and soul were an open vessel.  The priest had the faith and knew that God would take care of my blockage.  I am still amazed at how when I call upon the Lord he is there for me every time.

I found that twenty-five years later God’s Miracle was still visible.

I had completed a body scan checking for cancer when shortly thereafter I received a frantic call from my oncologist at work.

“You need to go over to the emergency room right away.” She said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Aren’t you in pain?”

“No, why would I be in pain?”

“Because I am looking at the results of your scan and you have a bowel blockage.”

Right away I thought. “Ha, thank you, Lord!” A reminder all things are possible through God. Then I said to my oncologist, “That is from over twenty-five years ago. I am fine.”

“If you feel nauseated or have any pain you go straight to the hospital.” She instructed.

"If you can?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for one who believes." Mark 9:23

Seven years later I had gone in to see my general practitioner regarding a numbness I was experiencing in my left leg. It only happened twice but I had decided to be on the safe side and have it checked. The doctor ran some x-rays of my back and neck then called to tell me that something was showing up on one of my lungs.

I said, “I bet it is my right lung. That would have been caused by the radiation therapy.”

She said, “Yes. It is your right lung but it is not from the radiation because it was not there the last time we did an X-ray. So we need to do a CAT scan.”

That night while sleeping, I saw the serpent come around the corner and then die. This told me that the cancer was dead. So for the next couple weeks I was able to keep my husband calm and assure him that this was just a formality.

The phone call came in from the doctor. “I have Good News for you! The spots we see on your lungs have been there since your radiation treatments and there has been no change. But there is some artery damage from arteriosclerosis.”

I made my follow-up appointment. The doctor immediately apologized for jumping to conclusions regarding my lung scarring and for missing the earlier tests that showed the scar tissue.

While going through the bloodwork report she confirmed that the numbers were excellent and that I had no reason to be concerned. Most people have some amount of blockages in their veins and that I should continue to maintain a healthy diet and to exercise. Then I made the ultimate mistake-- For the third time inside of six months I repeated a partial story.

In her office, as she updated my chart I recited the story of when years earlier, I had been at work and received a phone call from my oncologist to urge me to go to the emergency room for a bowel obstruction.

I told her that I had that blockage for years and that I was doing fine. After telling this story to my doctor the very next day my bowel blocked. I had to go into urgent care and they recommended that I go to the hospital. I refused, so they said I could wait to see if the blockage would subside, but not to let it continue for too long.

After days of praying while in excruciating pain the bowel began to move a little and then God spoke to me. “Do you believe?”

“Do I believe in what?” I asked.

“Do you believe that your bowel is blocked or do you believe that you were healed?” And then I had the revelation that I had altered my testimony. God had healed me over twenty-seven years ago and now I was telling the part of the story about how I had a blockage without giving the full testimony of God’s healing grace.

Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar because they have not believed the testimony God has given to his Son. 1 John 5:10

Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” Mark 5:19

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father- the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father- he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. John 15:26-27

I know now that I am to testify to all things concerning the Lord. I cannot be concerned with what people might think. That is between them and him.
